Itinerary

Day 1: RECEPTION IN LIMA – CITY TOUR ½ DAY

AM or PM: Welcome to Lima! Our team will be at the airport to meet you and escort you by private vehicle to your hotel in the city.
Check-in at the hotel. Free time to rest and have lunch before the afternoon begins.
14:00 hrs: Your guide will collect you from the hotel for a 4-hour journey through the highlights of Lima, covering the Historic Center and the upscale Miraflores district. Key landmarks include: Plaza de Armas, the Government Palace, Lima Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, the historic Cordano Bar, the San Francisco Museum and Catacombs, and the Miraflores seafront.
At the conclusion of the tour, you will be returned to your hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Lima (Peru).

Day 2: FLIGHT LIMA – CUSCO CITY TOUR ½ DAY

AM: Breakfast at the hotel. Your driver will collect you and take you to Lima airport for your mid-morning departure to Cusco.
After a 90-minute flight, you will touch down in Cusco where your guide and driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel.
Settle in, enjoy a cup of coca-leaf tea to help with acclimatization, and take some time for lunch at a nearby restaurant (not included).
13:30 hrs: Start of the Cusco City Tour. Over the next 4 hours, your guide will lead you through the most significant historical landmarks of the former Inca capital, including the Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha), the imposing fortress of Sacsayhuamán, the ceremonial site of Q’enqo, the San Pedro market, and the iconic Plaza de Armas.
Return to the hotel at approximately 18:00 hrs. Overnight at the hotel in Cusco (Peru).

Day 3: SACRED VALLEY TOUR – TRAIN TO AGUAS CALIENTES

AM: Breakfast at the hotel and departure into the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
First stop: the town of Chinchero, where you will take part in a brief cultural encounter with the local community and their alpacas, explore the weekly artisan market, and visit the well-preserved Colonial Temple.
Next, visit the circular terraced platforms of Moray, an extraordinary Inca agricultural research site known for its unique microclimates, followed by the Maras Salt Mines, a striking collection of terraced salt pools fed by a natural underground spring and still actively worked by local families.
Lunch stop in Urubamba, the largest settlement in the Sacred Valley, with a wide selection of restaurants to suit every taste (not included).
Afternoon visit to Ollantaytambo, one of the finest examples of living Inca urban planning. Your guide will walk you through the ancient cobblestone streets and up to the commanding hilltop fortress, offering sweeping views over the valley below.
Board the tourist train at Ollantaytambo station for the 1-hour 45-minute ride to Aguas Calientes, winding through cloud forest, past Inca terracing and snow-dusted peaks.
Arrival in Aguas Calientes and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Aguas Calientes (Peru).

Day 4: MACHU PICCHU TOUR – RETURN TO CUSCO

AM: Breakfast at the hotel.
06:30 hrs: Your guide will walk you to the bus station for the 30-minute ride up the winding mountain road to the entrance of the Machu Picchu citadel.
Enjoy a comprehensive 3-hour guided visit of the site, taking in the Temple of the Sun, the central plaza, the stepped agricultural terraces, the Royal Quarters, and the panoramic viewpoint. After the guided section, you will have free time to wander the sanctuary at your own pace.
Optional: hike to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain (additional cost of USD $75 per person, approximately 2 extra hours). Note: return to Cusco will be on a later train, arriving at approximately 20:30 hrs.
Bus back down to Aguas Calientes. Free time for lunch (not included), then board the afternoon train to Ollantaytambo.
Private transport from Ollantaytambo back to Cusco. Approximate arrival at 18:30 hrs. Overnight at the hotel in Cusco (Peru).

Day 5: RAINBOW MOUNTAIN FULL DAY TOUR

05:00 hrs: Hotel pick-up in Cusco and departure by private transport.
2-hour drive through high-altitude villages and scenic valleys to the town of Cusipata, where you will stop for a hearty breakfast at a local eatery surrounded by striking mountain scenery.
Continue 40 minutes further up the valley to the trailhead at 4,650 m / 15,255 ft. Begin the guided hike toward the Vinicunca viewpoint. A horse rental option is available for the first section of the trail (extra cost). The final stretch to the summit at 5,040 m / 16,535 ft must be completed on foot.
At the summit, take in the remarkable natural color palette of Rainbow Mountain vivid bands of red, orange, yellow, green, and blue formed by mineral-rich layers of sediment. Optional extension to the quieter Red Valley viewpoint, where iron oxide gives the surrounding hills a deep crimson tone.
Descend with your guide and return by transport to Cusipata for a well-earned lunch at a local restaurant.
2-hour drive back to Cusco. Approximate arrival at your hotel at 16:00 hrs. Overnight at the hotel in Cusco (Peru).

Day 6: HUMANTAY LAGOON FULL DAY TOUR

05:00 hrs: Hotel pick-up in Cusco and departure by private transport.
2-hour 30-minute drive through the fertile Apurímac River valley to the mountain town of Mollepata at 2,803 m / 9,200 ft, where you will stop for a filling breakfast at a restaurant on the town square.
Continue 40 minutes up to the starting point of the hike at Soraypampa (3,850 m / 12,631 ft). Your guide will lead you on a 90-minute ascent to the shores of Humantay Lagoon at 4,180 m / 13,714 ft. Horse rental available for those who prefer not to hike (extra cost).
The glacial lake sits at the foot of the snow-covered Humantay peak. On a clear day, its vivid turquoise waters mirror the surrounding mountain faces, creating one of the most serene and photogenic settings in the region.
Descend back to Soraypampa and return to Mollepata for lunch with panoramic views of the Apurímac valley.
Return drive to Cusco. Approximate arrival at your hotel at 16:00 hrs. Overnight at the hotel in Cusco (Peru).

Day 7: CUSCO – PUNO (TOURIST BUS)

AM: Breakfast at the hotel.
06:15 hrs: Private transfer to the bus terminal for the 07:00 hrs departure to Puno.
The 10-hour scenic journey crosses the southern highlands, with 5 stops along the route including 3 guided visits: the Andahuaylillas Church (the Sistine Chapel of the Americas), the Raqchi Temple dedicated to the god Wiracocha, and the Pukará Lithic Museum. Buffet lunch included in Sicuani. Photo stop at the Abra La Raya Pass, the highest point of the route. The bus is fully equipped with heating, air conditioning, onboard restrooms, and complimentary hot and cold drinks.
17:00 hrs: Arrival in Puno and transfer to your hotel on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Overnight at the hotel in Puno (Peru).

Day 8: LAKE TITICACA TOUR – UROS FLOATING ISLANDS AND TAQUILE

AM: Breakfast at the hotel.
06:45 hrs: Transfer to the port of Puno and board the 07:15 hrs boat to the Uros Floating Islands, located approximately 10 km from shore (30 minutes by boat).
Spend 1 hour and 30 minutes on the islands of the Uru people, one of the most ancient cultures of Lake Titicaca. The Uru construct and maintain their floating homes entirely from totora reed, an aquatic plant native to the lake, replacing the surface layer every 20 days. Learn about their centuries-old way of life, fishing traditions, and the remarkable engineering behind their self-sufficient island communities.
Continue by boat for 1 hour to Taquile Island. Walk the wide stone path to the central plaza, visit local weaving workshops, and enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by a local family in their home.
Return by boat to the port of Puno and transfer back to your hotel, arriving at approximately 16:00 hrs. Free evening to explore the city at leisure. Overnight at the hotel in Puno (Peru).

Day 9: PUNO – JULIACA AIRPORT – FLIGHT TO LIMA – HOME

AM: Breakfast at the hotel.
At the appropriate time, private transfer to Inca Manco Capac Airport in Juliaca (approximately 1 hour). Your driver will accompany you to the departures area for check-in.
Flight from Juliaca to Lima (approximately 90 minutes).
Upon arrival at Lima airport, you may rest and wait for your international connection, or explore the Miraflores district on your own if time allows before your departure.

15 Days In-Depth Tour of Peru

The tour was good but not very suitable for elderly travelers because of the early wake-up times.

The long bus trip from Nazca to Arequipa was especially tough. We left Nazca at 4 PM and arrived in Arequipa around 2:30 AM.

Tour guide Tatiana and all drivers did a very good job.
